MotoCrane INS 2 Advanced Stabilization Specs, Manuals and Field Guide
Lift-axis angle hold for RADICAL and HYPER over rough terrain.
What it is
INS 2 adds a 6-axis inertial sensor on the front boom so the arm can hold lift angle while the vehicle pitches over terrain. The sensor has a calibrated, temperature compensated triaxial accelerometer and gyroscope.
Every RADICAL ships with the drivetrain parts INS 2 needs, so setup is mounting the sensor on the front boom and plugging it in. INS 2 is standard on HYPER.
ULTRA uses the earlier INS Advanced Stabilization upgrade, which needs a lift motor swap done by MotoCrane. See the FAQ.
MotoCrane does not publish a separate spec table for INS 2 Advanced Stabilization. See the manuals below.
Questions
- What does INS Advanced Stabilization do on ULTRA?
- It is a 3-part ULTRA upgrade: a bolt-on AHRS sensor, a lift motor rated for 2.5 times the speed at the same torque, and controller firmware with an INS tuning interface. It helps the lift axis hold lens height when the vehicle changes angle, such as a parking ramp, a ditch or a curb.
- Can I install INS on my ULTRA myself?
- Not the whole upgrade. The lift motor swap is done by MotoCrane in Minneapolis, and the price includes that labor. You can mount and remove the INS sensor on the booms and update firmware yourself, using the ULTRA Programming Kit or by sending the controller in with the Turret.
- Will INS make my stabilized head work better?
- No. INS affects the ULTRA lift axis. It reduces vertical parallax of the lens. It does not fix high frequency shake from a poorly tuned head. The passive Isolator still handles high frequency jolts.
