How to balance a MotoCrane TITAN LT

Balance tilt depth, tilt height, roll, then pan. Good balance keeps the motors from working harder than they need to and avoids heat warnings. All TITAN LT knobs are hand-tight only.

How do you balance a camera on a MotoCrane TITAN LT?

  1. 1Tilt depth

Support the payload, unlock tilt, and check if it tips forward or back. Loosen the Basebar lock lever and Crossbar knob and slide the camera back if front heavy, forward if back heavy. Lock and recheck.

  2. 2Tilt height

Point the lens straight up and check which way it falls. Lock tilt, loosen the Tilt Cage lock knobs, turn the Tilt Balance knobs, retighten and recheck until the camera holds pointed up, down and level. Keep the marks on both cage uprights even so the cage does not bind.

  3. 3Roll

With tilt level and locked, unlock roll. If it rolls right slide the camera left, and the reverse. Lock the Basebar and Crossbar knobs. Confirm by deflecting tilt and roll 45 deg and checking they hold.

  4. 4Pan

Pan can only be balanced if the support can swing the gimbal off vertical. On rigid underslung rigs use a dampened U-joint or balance on a separate support. Loosen the 4 Pan Lock knobs, use the Pan Balance knob, check several positions, and retighten.

  • Watch the axis locks. An unlocked axis can rotate the payload without warning.
