How much counterweight does a MotoCrane RADICAL need?

  1. 1Weigh the payload

Payload is everything hanging from the Isolator: anti-vibration mount, head, camera, accessories. Weigh it. MotoCrane warns that adding up spec sheet weights often leads to balance errors.

  2. 2Preload counterweight

Load the rear boom with the coarse counterweight from the chart below and lock it with the CW lock knobs. Never preload more than 100 lbs / 45.5 kg without the payload attached.

  3. 3Fit the head adapter

Remove the 4 M6 bolts, take the Head Adapter off the Isolator and fit it to the payload. Use an anti-vibration mount, or pan tuning will likely suffer.

  4. 4Mount the payload

Bolt the payload to the Isolator with the 4 M6 fasteners and install the safety pin. 35 lbs max unless you have the HEAVYLIFT Upgrade Kit (35 to 45 lbs uses the chart in the Heavylift manual).

  5. 5Add the rest and fine-tune

Add any remaining counterweight, then run BALANCE TEST on the COMMAND Console. The lift axis has a fail-safe brake, and big imbalance can cause permanent damage.

  6. 6Set the Isolator

Pump the air shock rear chamber until the Z-axis ride angle indicator reads about 15 deg, then set damping with the Fast-Slow dial.
