MotoCrane RADICAL won't turn on: power path checklist

Isolate a no-power RADICAL one link at a time: power source, PSU, controller cable, main power output cable, Cortex to Fulcrum cable, then the Cortex. Assumes the PSU system power switch is on and the controller does not boot.

What do I check when a MotoCrane RADICAL won't power on?

  1. 1Read the PSU voltmeter

If the SYS POWER voltmeter is off, check the power source. It must be above 42V. If the source is good and the meter is still dark, the PSU has likely failed.

  2. 2Check the COM PWR LED

If the voltmeter reads but the PSU COM PWR LED is not green, turn the system off, unplug the controller cable from the COM port, and power up again.

  3. 3Isolate the controller cable

If the voltmeter now stays on, the controller or its cable is damaged. Try a spare controller cable first.

  4. 4Isolate the main power output cable

If the voltmeter still drops, power off, disconnect the main power output cable from the PSU and power up. A meter that now stays on points to the main power output cable, or to the Base or Cortex.

  5. 5Isolate the Cortex to Fulcrum cable

Power off, remove the short Cortex to Fulcrum cable, and power on. If things recover, that cable or the Fulcrum is damaged.

  6. 6Reverse polarity circuit

If the PSU survives but shows signs of a reverse polarity event, the guide describes a bypass procedure. The system can run without the protection circuit, but it needs replacing. This is a technician procedure: contact MotoCrane Support.

  7. 7Last step

If every cable checks out, the Cortex is likely damaged and needs replacing.

  • A red Fault LED near the PSU SYSTEM POWER INPUT means a problem with the power source, for example reverse polarity.
  • Power LEDs can stay dimly lit for a short time after power is switched off. That is normal.
